When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in Painting is on view at Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm through August 30, 2026. Conceived and organized by Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, the exhibition brings together over 148 works from institutional and private lenders across 16 countries, tracing a century of painting by Black artists worldwide. Organized around six themes—The Everyday, Joy and Revelry, Repose, Sensuality, Spirituality, and Triumph and Emancipation—the exhibition offers a nuanced picture of Black life and thought, grounded in a curatorial vision that places African and diasporic artistic practices at the center of global art history.
