The Collection

Ron Norsworthy is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans fine art, design, filmmaking, and architecture. Born in South Bend, Indiana, and raised in Iowa and Illinois, Norsworthy received his bachelor's degree with honors in architecture from Princeton University. He began his career as a designer for architect Michael Graves before moving into art direction and production design, working on music videos and televised performances for artists including Britney Spears, Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott, Madonna, and Jay-Z.

Norsworthy's visual art employs notions of space and the decoration of space as narratives about his lived experience as a queer person of color, and that of his broader communities. Working through collaged reliefs, decorative objects, textiles, and installations, he creates layered, non-linear stories that reconsider historical narrative and reimagine domestic space through an Afrofuturist lens. His piece The New Room (Allegory no. 3) reimagines a room inside Mount Vernon and was acquired by the Newark Museum of Art in 2022. In addition to his solo practice, Norsworthy collaborates with his husband, artist David Anthone, as DARNstudio.

Norsworthy's work has been exhibited at Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York, and is included in the permanent collection of the Newark Museum of Art, among others. He was a 2019 recipient of the Artistic Excellence Fellowship from the Connecticut Office of the Arts and completed a residency at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in 2022. He currently lives and works in Connecticut and New Jersey.
