Aso Kojima is a Japanese ceramic artist whose practice is deeply entwined with his life as a farmer. Living with his family on a self-sustaining farm in Nagano, Kojima considers agriculture and pottery to be equal parts of the same daily rhythm, with his vessels and art objects emerging organically from this cycle.

Kojima’s approach to ceramics is informed by extensive travels across Asia, where he studied traditional kiln sites. He has built and dismantled more than twenty kilns of his own, five of which remain in use, treating each as both a technical experiment and a philosophical exercise. His work reflects a wide-ranging command of traditional techniques, incorporating Mishima-de, Tetsu-e, Yakishime, Hakeme, and other methods. The resulting pieces are at once functional and expressive, embodying a style that balances humility of origin with aesthetic refinement.

In addition to vessels, Kojima creates ceramic art objects that expand on the language of form and surface, reflecting his belief that craft, farming, and art are inseparable elements of a holistic practice.
