Tom Brydelsky is a painter whose work in oils, acrylics, collage, and especially encaustic explores themes of perception, memory, and the natural environment. Known for luminous abstractions and atmospheric landscapes and florals, he creates layered surfaces that speak to the fragility of life and recollection. His signature encaustic technique produces translucent depth and texture, while his recent Swatch series combines bold color with washes of pigment and collage to generate compositions alive with energy. In his Lightworks series, Brydelsky incorporates LED light into painted surfaces, creating a radiant interplay between material and illumination that reflects both personal and collective spirit.
Brydelsky studied at the Art Students League (1977–81) and received his BFA from Empire State College (CUNY). He is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2017), and his work has been featured in Architectural Digest and on the television special Fashioning a Home with Clinton Kelly. He has exhibited widely in the U.S. and Europe, with solo shows at Cheryl Hazan Gallery (New York) and Gruen Galleries (Chicago), and his work is held in public and private collections including the Heckscher Museum of Art (NY) and the Ben Shahn Center Galleries at William Paterson University (NJ).
In addition to his studio practice, Brydelsky has worked extensively as a museum educator at institutions including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Queens Museum of Art, Heckscher Museum of Art, and Parrish Art Museum.
