Kagiso Gundane

South Africa

Kagiso Gundane is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice spans printmaking, drawing, sculpture, and installation. His work engages African spirituality and cultural sensitivity within postcolonial contexts, reflecting both his personal background and the communities in which he was raised. Growing up among traditional healers, Gundane integrates spiritual knowledge with contemporary artistic forms, creating works that are both intimate and symbolic.

As a person with a spiritual gift, Gundane approaches his practice as an extension of lived experience, using his art to interpret and translate intangible concepts of belief, ritual, and healing. His pieces often embody layered meanings, negotiating the complexities of identity, tradition, and transformation in South Africa’s evolving cultural landscape.

Gundane studied visual art at the University of Johannesburg, where he honed his technical skills while deepening his conceptual exploration of African cosmologies. His ongoing practice remains closely tied to his community, bridging the material and the spiritual through art.
